Mary was born in Eden, NC, and grew up in Madison, NC with her family, where she was the tenth of 10 children. Following her graduation from high school, she attended Rockingham Community College, and then transitioned into a position with the Rockingham County Department of Social Services, where she remained for 12 years. During this time, she married her husband Anthony and had two sons, Eric and Ryan. Following the birth of Ryan, Mary was hired by the Alamance County Department of Social Services, where she remained for 22 years, with her time coming to an end with her retirement at the end of 2013.
For the last 16 years, Mary worked out of Alamance Regional Medical Center, primarily handling Long Term Care and Special Assistance Medicaid applications. During her career, she maintained cases for both Children and Adult Medicaid.
Mary joined the firm of Deal, Paschal & Associates, PLLC in January 2014 as our Medicaid Specialist. “When we learned that Mary was retiring from the Department of Social Services, we knew immediately that we had to find a way to bring her into the fold,” said Ray Deal. “The Medicaid application side of our practice had grown in the last 12 months, and we knew that having the chance to hire an expert like Mary – who knows the ins and outs of the Medicaid process like few others – was something that we could not let pass us by.”
As our Medicaid Specialist, Mary is responsible for all Medicaid applications that are submitted by our office. Once the planning and steps needed for qualification are completed by Ray or John, Mary takes over and guides the Client through the Medicaid application process – step by step.
When asked to do her bio, Mary said it gave her the opportunity to reflect on her life thus far. “I realized that even though I had enjoyed this long and successful career at DSS, my main calling has been as a mother for two sons – one of whom is special needs – and that what I am most proud of is having raised those children.”
Mary currently lives in Burlington, where she resides with her son Ryan and her husband Anthony, who is a retired from the Graham Police Department. She attends Trinity Worship Center, where she is very active in the Coffeetime Ministry. She has volunteered as a grade-parent for her son’s classrooms, has been a leader in the Civil Air Patrol, and has served as President of the Women’s Auxiliary for the Mayodan Fire Department.

A native of Alamance County, Robin began working for the firm in 1999. Robin serves as our intake coordinator, and also manages the day-to-day affairs of the firm.
Robin believes completely in the services we provide to our clients, and is very good at connecting with them on a personal level. She is very compassionate, and that compassion is evident with every person whom she interacts. Very rarely does a day go by where we are not told about how someone appreciated the time Robin took with them, either on the phone or in person, and how much it helped put them at ease. Many of our clients are facing stressful situations with family members facing illness, and Robin is very good at putting them at ease.
Robin will be your main point of contact, on either the phone or in the office, and she looks forward to speaking with you and helping you start the estate planning process.
